    The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) exists to enrich peopleユs lives with great programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain. Its vision is to be the most creative, trusted organisation in the world. It provides a wide range of distinctive programmes and services for everyone.

    BBC services, including international, national and local radio, and both terrestrial and digital TV channels at home and abroad, are hugely popular, with over 90% of the UK population using them every week. The BBC also runs orchestras, actively develops new talent and supports training and production skills for the British broadcasting, music, drama and film industries.

    The BBC is financed by a TV licence paid by households. It does not have to serve the interests of advertisers, or produce a return for shareholders. This means it can concentrate on providing high quality programmes and services, many of which would not otherwise be supported by subscription or advertising.

    BBC World Service is the worldユs most respected voice in international broadcasting. It provides authoritative and impartial news and information in 43 languages worldwide. Its English service is available via digital radio in the UK.

    The BBC generates further revenue to support its home services by exploiting its assets at home and abroad through its commercial consumer arm-BBC

    BBC Worldwide is a wholly owned subsidiary of the BBC. The company was formed in 1994 to develop a co-ordinated approach to the BBCユs commercial activities and to ensure the BBC continues to develop as a leading player in the world media market. BBC Worldwide is fully accountable to the Director General of the BBC and operates at arms length from the rest of the BBC.

    BBC Worldwideユs central purpose, as the commercial consumer arm of the BBC is to generate money that can be reinvested in the BBC, for the benefit of the UK licence fee payer. As BBC Worldwide continues to return money to public service broadcasting, it remains committed to maintaining the editorial and production standards on which the BBC prides itself. Its many television channels around the world provide an international ヤshop windowユ for UK creativity.

    BBC Worldwideユs strategic goals is to bring BBC TV programmes to million of homes around the world, whilst maintaining its position as a leading publisher in all media formats (including magazines, books, video, audio, online and CD-Rom), creating successful commercial television channels and promoting the BBC name across the globe.
